SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Two years after killing a homeless man while trying to take his dog in Sacramento County, a man was sentenced to decades in prison for murder.
On Oct. 8, 2023, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office said Richard Bradford, 62, murdered Joshua Rash, who was living in an encampment.
Officials said Bradford had gone to the encampment to take Rash's dog. Rash armed himself with a pole to try to stop Bradford from taking his dog, but Bradford shot him in the chest and left him underneath a bridge on Gerber Road.
A bystander found the victim, the sheriff's office said at the time. The district attorney's office said Rash's dog was sitting by his side when his body was found.
