As the government shutdown continues, some restaurants are giving federal workers a break when they dine out.

Now in its second week after beginning on Oct. 1 , the shutdown led to a work stoppage for hundreds of thousands of workers who were furloughed, while some others continued working without pay.

President Donald Trump had threatened some furloughs may result in permanent layoffs in the wake of the shutdown and "substantial" layoffs or "reductions in force" of some federal departments and agencies have begun, the administration said Oct. 10.
