FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas Department of Transportation hosted the Oklahoma Department of Transportation on Friday to showcase its speed enforcement cameras in work zones.
ARDOT implemented these cameras after a legislation change in 2023. According to the Director of ARDOT, Jared Wiley, since adding the cameras to work zones all automobile crashes are down 25%.
ODOT came to town and participated in a tutorial on how the cameras operate and how Arkansas went about getting them approved in the state.
Director of ODOT, Tim Gatz, said it was beneficial to see the cameras in action.
"I believe that our legislature will be receptive to it. We're going to follow what Arkansas has done and show the effectiveness and the results that we're seeing here," Gatz said.
