A Whatcom County sheriff’s deputy was hurt Thursday night west of Ferndale when a driver slammed into his patrol car, the Washington State Patrol said.

A State Patrol report on the incident said Deputy Thomas Craig was blocking the intersection of Mountain View and Barr roads, in a marked SUV with his emergency lights flashing, when he was hit by a Ferndale woman driving a 2005 Cadillac.

Craig and Gini Alexander were taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, the patrol’s report said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the State Patrol report.

Deb Slater with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said Friday morning that Craig was home and resting.
