ANKENY, Iowa ( KCCI ) - A cyclist has died after getting hit Thursday by a dump truck in Polk County.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the cyclist was traveling on a recumbent-style bike on the High Trestle Trail in Ankeny.

The cyclist attempted to cross Northwest 44th Street when she was hit by a dump truck.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office identified the cyclist as 44-year-old Courtney R. Peterson, of Ankeny.

The crash is under investigation. Deputies report the driver of the dump truck is fully cooperating with the investigation.
