WASHINGTON — Despite the government shutdown, D.C. residents will still be able to tie the know after the LOVE Act was signed into law on Friday.

The DC city council has given Mayor Muriel Bowser the emergency power to issue marriage licenses and to arrange for a justice of the peace to perform weddings, which are typically handled by the town clerk.

The law will remain in effect for up to 90 days.

A similar measure was passed during the protracted shutdown of 2018-2019.

The act passed during that shutdown lasted 35 days.
