PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — After more than a week, Brown University President Christina Paxson has publicly addressed the Trump administration’s “Compact for Excellence in Higher Education” and is seeking community feedback on how the university should respond.

Brown is one of nine schools that received the 10-point memo from White House officials earlier this month, outlining proposed changes to how universities handle admissions, political expression, hiring, and tuition. It would also require standardized testing, cap international enrollment at 15%, and mandate acceptance of the federal government’s definition of gender. Institutions that choose to sign the compact would reportedly be prioritized for certain federal funding benefits.
