Wilmington-area residents are urged to stay alert as a coastal storm is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rains to the Cape Fear region through the weekend.
The low pressure system will pass through the area Friday-Sunday on its way up the East Coast, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
The storm is expected to cause flooding in coastal areas, which could be further impacted by king tides. The greatest flooding threat is likely around midday Friday, Oct. 10, according to the weather service.
Hazardous surf conditions are also expected through Sunday, Oct. 12.
