AMHERST, NY — Amherst Central High School played its first football game since the death of former varsity coach, Jason Beckman.

Beckman served the district for nearly three decades working as a physical education teacher and coaching football and bowling. The district notified the school community of his death earlier this week.

Before Friday night's game, all players gathered at the 50-yard line for a moment of silence. Players also wore helmet stickers with the initials "J.B." in his honor.

Superintendent Anthony Panella told district families earlier this week that Care Rooms would be set up for middle and high school students in need of support. A team of psychologists, counselors, and social workers would also be present to help students who sought guidance and support.
