Tarik Skubal was always going to bring his best stuff to a win-or-go-home matchup, but he's gone above and beyond in ALDS Game 5. The Tigers ace surpassed the previous postseason record of six consecutive strikeouts in a single game when he fanned Eugenio Suárez to end the bottom of the fourth inning on Friday night for his seventh straight K.

The run ended for Skubal when Josh Naylor led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a lineout to center field. Eight pitchers had previously had six consecutive strikeouts in a playoff game, the most recent being Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage in ALDS Game 2 against the Yankees. Skubal also became the first pitcher in postseason history with 10+ strikeouts and no walks through the first four innings of a game.
