CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Craven County Schools surprised Dr. Marlow Artis by announcing him as the 2025–2026 Principal of the Year.

The surprise happened Friday morning at Craven Early College High School. Students and staff filled the auditorium, and the loud cheers echoed through the room as Dr. Artis learned he was receiving the honor. The announcement shocked him and many students.

The surprise also came during October, which is National Principals Month.

“He’s very detail-oriented and he always has back-up plans, which I really admire,” said student Kingseon Williams. “And he always keeps it professional.”

Students say Dr. Artis has made a big impact at their school.

“He comes to school; he greets everybody every time he’s here. Good morning... good job,” said Williams.
