Early in the fourth quarter of the Maryland football team’s most recent game, after a pass intended for Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston fell incomplete, Terrapins cornerback Dontay Joyner celebrated in the end zone by mimicking the action of pulling a seat belt across his body.

An official positioned nearby threw a penalty flag, assessing Joyner with unsportsmanlike conduct for taunting. On the next snap, Huskies quarterback Demond Williams Jr. completed a 3-yard touchdown throw to Boston, who got behind Joyner, to trim the Terrapins’ lead to 10 during a 24-20 loss in which Maryland led 20-0 in the third quarter.
