BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Students at Scotlandville High School are taking part in some of the most meaningful conversations happening in Baton Rouge, and they’re calling for adults to start listening.
The school recently hosted a “Day of Healing” event to give students a chance to share their experiences and ideas for improving safety and reducing violence on campus and around the city.
The event, led by the 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, New York Life, and a few city officials, encouraged open discussions about how trauma, community violence, and stress impact students’ daily lives.
Many students said they often feel their voices aren’t being heard when it comes to decisions about school safety.
“Definitely not enough. Not enough,” Jessica Bell, a Scotlandville student, said.
