Beneath a picturesque orange sunset at Fort Cherry’s Jim Garry Stadium, the Rangers sprinted onto the field through a red banner that read, “Crowns & Touchdowns” in bold, black lettering.
Those words foretold the essence of Fort Cherry’s dominant 56-19 win against Bishop Canevin on Friday night. There were certainly touchdowns — five of them from senior Penn State recruit Matt Sieg alone — and with the win, the Rangers (8-0, 5-0) clinched their third consecutive Class 1A Black Hills Conference crown.
Sieg, who’s been nursing a bruised right arm for the past few weeks, didn’t attempt a single pass. That didn’t matter. He rushed for 285 yards and three scores — and for the heck of it returned both a punt and an interception for touchdowns.
