BENNINGTON, Neb. —

Bennington Fire Department hosted first aid training to help police K9s in trouble on Friday.

They used two anatomical dog models so that the responders from multiple agencies could get hands-on experience.

The in-depth training is being taught by a veterinarian from Kansas.

Common K9 injuries that occur in the field include fractures, lacerations, and puncture wounds.

"They're going over fences. They're going under fences. They're going in all sorts of environments where those are your most typical injuries. They do, they can suffer gunshot wounds from assailants. They can be stabbed and hit and hurt in many different ways but the most common is environmental causes," said K9 handler Jay Wineinger.
