GALESBURG, Ill. (KWQC) - Galesburg officials are warning people about an elevated fire risk this weekend.

Officials said a high near 78° F and wind gusts on Sunday create an ideal setting for fires to spread quickly because of dry vegetation, according to a media release.

City leaders are strongly discouraging people from outdoor burning.

To help decrease the risk of accidental fires, city leaders are asking people to:

Properly dispose of cigarettes

Avoid activities involving open flames or sparks

Keep vehicles off of dry grass

Wait to use power equipment that could spark

Follow local burn bans

Galesburg joins other Quad Cities communities that have issued similar warnings about dangerous burning conditions in recent weeks.
