STOCKTON, Calif. —

The government shutdown is leading to a 30,000-pound weekly reduction in supplies from the USDA to Stockton's emergency food bank, affecting its ability to serve the community and support local nonprofits.

Alesha Pichler from the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton explained that the food bank serves anywhere from 450 to 500 cars every day.

Centro Cristiano De Fe, a nonprofit partner, is facing challenges due to the reduced donations.

"We rely on them for everything that has to do with the pantry," said Maricela Serna from Centro Cristiano De Fe. "The team was really sad. Our first reaction is, what are we going to do?"

Serna also mentioned having to turn people away, a situation she had not faced before.
