The Massachusetts Republican Party has three solid candidates running for governor.

They are Mike Kennealy, 45, of Lexington, Brian Shorsleeve, 52, of Barnstable, and newcomer Michael Minogue, 56, of Hamilton.

While both Kennealy and Shortsleeve served in the Charlie Baker administration — Kennealy as secretary of Housing and Economic Development and Shortsleeve as an MBTA official — neither has run for public office before. Nor has Minogue.

That is not necessarily a handicap and may even be an asset, particularly if Massachusetts voters, tired of the Democratic Party’s costly pro-illegal immigrant and pro-criminal policies, are looking for a clean new look.
