LOGAN – Whenever we have two versions musicals of the same musical running simultaneously here in northern Utah, they inevitably invite comparison.

I’m going to avoid that, not just because it wouldn’t be fair, but because the local Tri-Theatre Alliance production of The Addams Family that opened on Oct. 10 at the Ellen Eccles Theatre is a marvelous show in its own right.

As expected, The Addams Family a big, sprawling musical, with lavish costuming, elaborate sets, a live orchestra, a huge chorus and a brilliant cast of actors, singers and dancers.

With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, The Addams Family musical brings to life all the bizarre characters from the cartoons drawn by Charles Addams for the New Yorker Magazine for 50 years starting in 1938.
