UPLAND — The Rancho Cucamonga and Upland football teams both wanted to play a solid four quarters a week after failing to do so in their Baseline League openers.
Rancho Cucamonga was the only one successful as the Cougars scored in every quarter of a 42-7 rout of host Upland on Friday night.
“That was a big emphasis all week with the coaching staff and with the players, coming out and playing for all four quarters,” Rancho Cucamonga coach Alex Pierce said. “I thought we were able to do that today, much better than we did last week.”
A week ago, Rancho Cucamonga (3-4 overall, 2-0 league) built an 18-point first half lead then held on for a 24-22 victory over Damien. Upland (1-6, 0-2) led Chino Hills 21-0 at halftime but ended up losing, 27-21, in overtime.
