LOVELAND — You’d be hard pressed to find a more accomplished running backs room in the state than what you’ll find at Monarch High School.

It is junior tailback Malakhi Payne? Well, he’s been terrific this fall, adding three more touchdowns to his name on Friday night as the Coyotes beat Loveland 39-20 at Ray Patterson Field.

But it’s who’s been in his ear between each of his 14 rushing TDs this season who has the top resumé.

He’s Scott Lockwood. Back in the 1980s, he was Fairview High School’s larger-than-life football prodigy. And football still runs through his veins.

“I can’t wait to get up tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. and watch film,” he said while leaving the field late Friday night.
