SLATON — The Slaton football team used a fast start Friday to get off to the right start in district.

The Tigers raced to a 33-7 lead in the first quarter en route to a 49-33 win over Littlefield in the District 2-3A Division II opener at Blake J. Boyd Stadium. The result marked the Wildcats' first loss of the season.

Slaton (6-1, 1-0 district) scored on its first three possessions, including after an onside kick recovery. The ensuing drive put the Tigers up 19-0 less than midway through the opening stanza.

Littlefield (6-1, 0-1) held Slaton scoreless over the second and third quarters to pull within 12 points, but that's as close as the Wildcats got. Following a fourth-down stop, the Tigers upped their advantage with another string of three consecutive scoring drives.
