A Bengaluru-based IT employee’s request to work from home after her mother met with an accident was denied by her company, even after she provided medical and police documents as proof.

An Indian man shared the story of his sister-in-law’s ordeal in a post on Reddit’s 'r/India' subreddit, titled “Indian work culture is actually insane”.

The woman, who works at an IT firm in Bengaluru, had requested permission to work from home for a month after her mother — the man’s mother-in-law — suffered injuries in a scooter accident.

“My mother-in-law and her brother had a scooter accident last week. She fractured her arm, and her brother’s face and hand are swollen and bruised; thankfully, no fractures,” the man wrote.
