This week, National Guard troops from Illinois and Texas were deployed to the Chicago area to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, other federal authorities and federal property. President Donald Trump also called for Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to be jailed for “failing to protect Ice Officers.” Meanwhile, a federal judge found that ICE repeatedly violated a nationwide consent decree by making “warrantless arrests” amid its immigration crackdown.
