Chairman Andrew Cavenagh and the Rangers board have reportedly been taken aback by the fan support shown towards Steven Gerrard – which is likely to inspire further confidence he's the man to lead them forward. ‌

Gerrard is in London for talks over the weekend with Cavenagh, Paraag Marathe and the Ibrox decision-makers and we understand he's the firm frontrunner as things stand. ‌

Other names are in the frame, such as former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl and Manchester United icon Michael Carrick, and while the board are keen to get an appointment done promptly, they're not rushing into anything – knowing the importance of getting this one right. ‌
