SEATTLE — There were times throughout his team’s latest loss where Rutgers coach Greg Schiano saw improvement in its porous defense.

Coordinator Robb Smith’s unit started Friday night’s meeting with Washington with three straight stops, forcing two punts and a missed field goal. It held the Huskies and their “explosive offense” to 10 points in the first half. Linebacker Dariel Djabome made the type of game-changing play the Scarlet Knights have lacked this fall, forcing a fumble and recovered it near the goal line to prevent a touchdown.

But ultimately, the few good moments were not enough to outweigh another heap of bad during a 38-19 loss at Husky Stadium.

“There definitely was improvement,” Schiano said. “Just not enough.”

Rutgers had a low bar to clear.
