A popular TV show has had an “astonishing” impact on tourism in Scotland, according to a new report from VisitScotland . The study reveals that fans of Outlander, which features numerous Scottish locations, have been inspired to explore the country.
Some destinations have seen visitor numbers more than double over the past decade. Blackness Castle , which appeared in the first season, welcomed 77,326 visitors in 2024, up from just 16,559 in 2014. Newhailes House in Edinburgh , featured in the fourth series released in 2018, experienced an even more dramatic rise, with visitors climbing from 4,831 in 2014 to 304,111 last year.
