Amid the sunny, fall weather outside and the high spirits and sounds of excited elementary school students packing the stands at Fort William Gardens, the Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team had to take a business approach to get this slippery start to the season back on track.

Freshman Dalton MacGillivray scored two goals and Carson Cherepak made 24 saves to lead Lakehead to its first conference win of the season Friday in a 5-2 decision over the Brock Badgers.

Caden Drury, another freshman, and Nick DeGrazia each added a goal and an assist, while Keighan Gerrie picked up his first goal of the campaign. LU scored three times on the powerplay on five chances.

The Thunderwolves snapped a three-game losing streak to start the OUA season and now sit at 1-3-0.
