LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Birthed by the Make America Healthy Again movement in the Trump administration, a Kentucky Republican is renewing his effort to enact some of the same health priorities within the state’s public school system.
State Rep. Steven Doan (R-Erlanger) has proposed a bill, which he plans to file in the 2026 legislation session in Frankfort, that would move to rid Kentucky’s K-12 school districts of ultra-processed foods in their cafeterias and vending machines.
"I think that the MAHA movement is led by some people that are serious about seeing our country get healthy again,” he told WHAS11.
Doan filed a similar bill in early 2025, but it did not pass. This version would give districts until the 2027-28 school year to implement the required changes if enacted.
