GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Florida’s commissioner of agriculture wants help from North Central Florida landowners to stop a tree-eating pest.

Wilton Simpson is asking forest landowners to sign up for the “Southern Pine Beetle Assistance and Prevention Program.”

The beetle eats pine trees and has been ravaging some forests in the South.

The program offers money to farmers who take steps to stop the beetle from eating trees.
