LOS ANGELES — The No. 15 Michigan football team almost put together a complete drive in the second half against Southern California — almost. Over a four-minute period, the Wolverines deliberately and methodically charged from their own 4-yard line into the Trojans’ territory.
In a bleak moment in a bleak game , down 21-7 late in the third quarter, Michigan’s offense finally looked capable. The Wolverines moved the ball down to the 29-yard line without facing a third down. And then everything came to a halt.
On first down, freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood tossed the ball up to freshman wide receiver Andrew Marsh at the goal line. With Marsh heavily contested, the ball was broken up. They followed that play with a run up the middle for no gain, putting the ball in Underwood’s hands
