Wesfarmers boss Rob Scott says it’s time Perth’s outdated shopping hours were reviewed, saying shoppers were worse off under rules that restrict what Bunnings can sell — and when they can open.

The Wesfarmers-owned hardware giant has recently cut the trading hours of its Bayswater and Cannington warehouses to allow it to sell the full Bunnings range of products, which now includes whitegoods, appliances, pet products and car-maintenance goods.

Retail shops in Perth must comply with government-mandated trading hours — which are 8am to 5pm on Saturdays and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. Bunnings and many other speciality shops trade under “special retail” regulations that allow them to open when they like between 6.30am and 11pm — but restrict what they can sell.
