Lightweight plastics such as sauce packets could be banned next as Australia leans towards eliminating single-use plastics.
Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) technology manager Marlene Cronje-Vermeulen said those tended to get lost in the system.
"The likely next targets could be packaging that is too small or lightweight, the things that get lost in the waste system ... think of the little sauce packets, they're single-serve, they're small," Ms Cronje-Vermeulen said.
Ms Cronje-Vermeulen said businesses and communities had an essential role to play.
"It's important that everybody understands the impact single-use, problematic packaging, and plastic has on our lands, it impacts our waters, and it's impacting the whole environment," she said.
"It mostly ends up in land
