CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Clemson’s orange pants aren’t just a fashion statement.

For years, they only made an appearance in the most important of games.

When the Tigers wore orange pants, it was because there was a championship on the line, whether it was a “state” championship game against rival South Carolina, a chance to clinch an ACC title or a College Football Playoff game.

So the most fashion-aware in the Clemson fan base were somewhat miffed on Oct. 11 when they saw the Tigers, sitting 2-3 and 1-2 in the ACC, taking the field at 1-4 Boston College in their orange pants.

It seemed like a run-of-the-mill conference game, even if the Tigers were, technically, fighting for ownership of their O'Rourke-McFadden Trophy with Boston College.
