BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A roadway has been partially closed as Beaufort County deputies investigate a reported shooting.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says part of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive has been closed near Highway 21 while deputies investigate the reported shooting.

Officials say drivers in the area can expect to see an increased law enforcement presence in the area, but they say there is no threat to the public. Those nearby are asked to avoid the area, if possible, as the investigation continues.

While Dr. Martin Luther Drive is blocked off at the intersection, Highway 21 remains open to traffic. Drivers are asked to use caution when driving and find an alternate route if they need to go down Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.
