MADISON, Wis. — All of the sudden, the energy inside Kinnick Stadium shifted.

There wasn’t just a sense of unbridled excitement that Drew Stevens drilled a 54-yarder to give Iowa a 13-10 lead over Indiana on Sept. 27. There was also concern and anxiety. It felt like Iowa’s past demons were circling yet again, dangling the possibility of another quarterback going by the wayside.

That was because Mark Gronowski went down in the fourth quarter. Gronowski scrambled out of the pocket and landed awkwardly after being tripped up. He spent an extended stint in the medical tent but did not return to the game.
