PEORIA, ILLINOIS — Growing up in LaMoille, Illinois, in the 1980s, in a moment of terror, Kimberly Souba joined the approximately 40 percent of children in our country harmed by sexual abuse.

While the story is, sadly, not uncommon, the way in which Kimberly fought back — eventually coming to a place of healing, believing in a good God, and becoming a beacon of hope — is.

Dan Wujek, who has been like a father to Kimberly, called her valiant recovery work “courageous,” noting “and now, she wants to make sure other children will know that they are loved and that God is good.”

Janean Doherty, Dan’s daughter, met Kimberly as her babysitter, later becoming a close friend.

But it wasn’t until Janean became a psych nurse that she realized “how much of an overcomer she is.”
