Jeremy Clarkson admitted he was taken to hospital for a "painful treatment" mere days after slamming the NHS .

Writing in the Sunday Times , the Amazon Prime Grand Tour star didn't disclose the details of his mystery treatment, but called it “Defcon 1 painful”.

The former BBC presenter became disillusioned with how often insurers tried to get out of paying for various procedures, leading him to ditch private health care.

Instead, he put money into a dedicated bank account, though it was no use when he needed urgent treatment and the nearest private hospital was two hours away by car.
