A Colorado bank that has offered no-interest loans to federal workers during some previous government shutdowns has decided not to do that during the current one.
“We know these situations change quickly but our stance is we’re not going to do the (shutdown loan) program,” said Tyler Dahl, Alpine Bank regional president in Mesa County. “But really, if we have a customer that’s having a tough time, just being in a relationship at a community bank, we want them to come talk to us and we’ll work with them on a case-by-case basis.”
The bank garnered widespread attention during a 1995-96 shutdown when it offered no-interest bridge loans to federal workers not receiving paychecks, with the workers paying the money back after they were retroactively paid after the shutdown’s end. The loans were
