SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -Today is “Let Freedom Read Day,” which is part of Banned Books Week.
In recognition of the day, Vote 417 hosted a pop-up at Mother’s Brewing Company in Springfield Saturday, featuring several classic books that have faced bans.
The first 25 people to stop by the table got one of those books for free, including “Fahrenheit 451,” “The Diary of Anne Frank,” “Huckleberry Finn,” and more.
“We’re wanting to show that ideas are not off limits. Just to kind of celebrate the freedoms that we have to read the books that we choose to read,” said Jacob Brower, co-founder of Vote 417.
Banned Books Week is hosted by the American Library Association.
