Mangaluru, Oct 12: In a meticulously planned fraud, Kavoor police have arrested three individuals accused of pledging imitation gold ornaments as genuine, thereby cheating a cooperative society of Rs 6.24 lac.

The arrested have been identified as Harif Abubakkar (39), a resident of Aakash Bhavan, Anand Nagar; Mohammed Ashiq Kattathar Hussain (34), residing in Nanthoor, Bikarnakatte; and Abdul Rameez (33), from Belandur village in Puttur taluk.

According to police sources, on October 9, Harif Abubakkar approached the Atmashakti Multipurpose Cooperative Society in Kavoor and pledged gold ornaments claiming they were genuine. Believing his claim, the society sanctioned a loan amounting to Rs 6.24 lac.
