Dozens gathered Friday evening to dance on the site of an old downtown Fairbanks monument and celebrate the foundation of what comes next.
Sue Sprinkle, a city council member, was cutting an impromptu jig, while others launched into a basic line dance.
The City Dance event, hosted by Festival Fairbanks, featured an eclectic range of songs curated by DJ Johnny, hot chocolate provided by Fudge Factory, cupcakes, dance, and a few ceremonies.
Small groups of friends, children and families swayed or moved to various songs or chatted around a few braziers.
Julie Jones, the Festival Fairbanks executive director, noted that the former Polaris Building site — now the Starter Block on Lacey Street — will serve as an outdoor ice rink once temperatures consistently dip below freezing.
