BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened near Highland Road and Dalrymple Drive, by the north gate on the LSU campus, Saturday, Oct. 11, evening.

Students and faculty received a campus alert urging them to avoid the area as officers responded.

According to the Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services, two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

BRPD confirmed two people have been detained, and multiple guns were confiscated at the scene. He added that the shooting was connected to a separate event on campus, not to university activities directly.

Highland Road remains closed between Dalrymple Drive and State Street as the investigation continues. Officials are urging people to stay away from the area and monitor
