The striking thing about UTEP football at the moment is how grim it is to watch.

The Miners' 19-8 loss to Liberty in a battle of 1-4 teams, on a Wednesday night in front of fewer than 10,000 people on CBS Sports Network, channel 85 of El Paso's cable provider, was as bad as all that sounds.

UTEP at one point had five consecutive three-and-outs, some of which featured playcalling like this: up the middle run, up the middle run, incomplete pass, punt. There were a few third-and-long failed runs mixed in before the eight UTEP punts.
