On Monday, Oct. 6, Steve “Dukie” Corson presented the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s hospital with a $300,000 check from the Waverly community.

Jim Leste, chief administrative officer of the hospital, and Courtney Blind, executive director, greeted Corson at 11 a.m., when they received the check.

They were later joined by Dr. David Gordon, department chair for pediatric oncology and hematology, Jackie Nelson, associate director for nursing, and Shanel Wermerskirchen, pediatric librarian.

Blind said to Corson that she was excited to “celebrate everyone’s incredible work supporting our physicians, nurses, patients and families.”

The check of $300,000 to Stead was split up as follows:

$100,000 to general funds

$75,000 to pediatric brain cancer research

$50,000 to pediatric
