NORTH CAROLINA, USA — North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein has signed a new law that makes it easier to renew driver’s licenses and changes how teenagers can get theirs.

“This law will enable more people to renew their driver’s license online, helping them avoid lines at DMV offices. It will also strengthen the state’s ability to protect against cyber threats,” Stein said in a statement.

The new law, Senate Bill 245, signed Sept. 30, lets drivers renew or update their licenses remotely by mail, phone, or online more than once, as long as they meet certain requirements. Before this change, drivers could only renew online once before having to go in person.
