Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables stirred conversation Tuesday after referencing the Big 12 during his weekly press conference.

“This isn’t the old Big 12 days where Oklahoma destroys everybody every single week,” Venables said in response to a question about competition in the SEC this season. “Every week there are big, long, fast, explosive dudes, great staffs, really good quarterback play, tremendous lines of scrimmage, things of that nature.”

The Big 12 Conference, however, appeared to take offense and responded on X, formerly known as Twitter, not long after Venables’ comments.

“Coach Venables lost eight conference games in his two seasons in the Big 12,” the official Big 12 account posted.
