DALLAS — The governing body of the Republican Party of Texas censured five of its own members in the Texas House but stopped short of kicking them off the primary ballot next year.
A total of 10 lawmakers were recommended for censure for, in essence, not being conservative enough and working against the state party’s legislative priorities.
Chairman Abraham George told us the cases against the lawmakers simply weren’t strong enough to ban them from the ballot because they wouldn’t withstand legal scrutiny.
“It wasn’t strong enough for us to go to court because, obviously, when you remove someone from the ballot, they’re going to take you to court,” George explained on Inside Texas Politics .
The votes came during an eight-hour meeting of the State Republican Executive Committee, th
