PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - State Farm is being sued by the State of Illinois, which claims the Bloomington firm is breaking the law by refusing to turn over homeowners’ insurance data for a regulatory examination.
State Farm said in a statement that no laws were broken. The company also believes the lawsuit has nothing to do with Illinois customers or the cost of their insurance.
For months, State Farm has faced criticism from Gov. JB Pritzker and other state officials about a 27% rate increase enacted in July of this year.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed the lawsuit in Cook County Court on behalf of State Department of Insurance Director Ann Gillespie, who’s conducting an investigation into State Farm’s homeowners’ insurance business since November 2024.
