Tejano musician Omar Cardenas, a Grammy Award-nominated bassist best known for his work with The Cardenas Project and La Diferenzia has died.

“With heavy hearts, the Cardenas Family shares the passing of our beloved Omar — a father, grandfather, brother, son and lifelong musician whose love for music and family touched everyone around him," a statement on The Cardenas Project’s Facebook page said . “His rhythm will forever live on in our hearts.”

The statement did not provide his age nor a cause of death.

According to a GoFundMe put together to cover funeral costs, Cardenas played bass alongside his brothers in various Tejano bands in the Midwest and Texas.
